Privacy Policy
Effective Date: August 2026 • Fully Static Architecture
1. Overview: Privacy by Architecture
At The Free Typing Test (accessible at thefreetypingtest.com), we believe privacy should be built directly into the software architecture, not just promised in legal text.
Our platform operates as a 100% static application hosted on Cloudflare Pages with zero backend servers, zero databases, and zero user account tracking.
2. Keystroke Data & Typing Tests
When you take a typing test on our website:
- Every keystroke, WPM metric, and error calculation occurs strictly in your browser memory.
- We never record, transmit, or log keystrokes across the internet.
- Once you close or refresh your browser tab, in-memory keystroke buffers are automatically purged by the browser.
3. Client-Side Browser Storage (`localStorage`)
To provide a seamless user experience without requiring an account, we use your browser's local storage for two non-identifying features:
Stores your recent test scores (WPM, accuracy, mode, timestamp) so you can review your recent progress on the same device.
Stores your preferred theme, font size, dyslexia-friendly font toggle, and reduced motion settings.
4. Analytics & Advertising
We may use aggregated analytics (such as Cloudflare Web Analytics or Google Analytics 4) to monitor overall website performance and bandwidth. These services collect non-personal diagnostic metrics such as page views and browser types.
If advertising partners (e.g. Google AdSense) are enabled in the future, standard advertising cookies may be used to serve non-intrusive ads. Users can manage cookie preferences directly in their browser settings.
5. Contact & Data Inquiries
If you have any questions or feedback regarding this Privacy Policy, you can contact our engineering team directly via our Contact Page or via email at privacy@thefreetypingtest.com.
